How To Make The Long Island Iced Tea – Bartender Style

Tasting Notes: Sweet bite with a sour finish with a potent pack. The overall flavor profile is hardcore citrus and gin character.

It’s been said, “real bartenders don’t use tequila” when making a long island ice tea recipe. So, in Common Man Cocktail practice, we’re putting that to the test with the recipe that’s closer to the International Bartender Association standard. This recipe appreciates the fact that flavor is first and potency comes second by not over-doing the fact that there are many different alcohols found within the cocktail. We’ve only got a half-ounce of each ingredient and there is no tequila. Try it, try the original and tell us which you like better.

 Recipe:

  • 1/2 oz. Vodka
  • 1/2 oz. Triple Sec
  • 1/2 oz. Gin
  • 1/2 oz. Rum
  • Fill with Sweet and Sour
  • Splash of Cola
  • Lemon Garnish

For me, it comes down to taste. There are somethings that should be a standard and some that shouldn’t, but it has more to do with what makes a good quality cocktail, i.e. sweet and sour mixers, etc.
