Firefly, Ole Smoky, Midnight Moon and Grandma’s Apple Pie Moonshine Review / Tasting

What do you do when you get to the liquor store and find four or more styles of Apple Pie Moonshine. Thinking, this is a niche product how many can exist and you find several of them, which do you choose? I walked in to get a simple bottle and found Firefly Apple Pie Moonshine sitting beside a mason jar of Ole Smoky Apple Pie Moonshine so, in duty, I purchased both to show off on the show (see Instagram photo), the question that arises was, “What about Midnight Moon’s Apple Pie Moonshine?” and so once again I head to the store to pick up yet a third bottle.

Then, I find out I had a sampler of Grandma’s Apple Pie Moonshine by Las Vegas Distillery so I pull that out for the blind tasting too. Now, it was time to get down to the tasting… the bake off between Firefly, Grandma’s, Midnight Moon and Ole Smoky. It was time to get down to business.

Once you’ve tasted all four some of the key differences being that Midnight Moon Apple Pie Moonshine brings more of an apple cider cinnamon flavor to its apple pie while Grandma’s brings a bit more of an intense alcohol punch, more like a lightly flavored apple pie in a moonshine. The Ole Smoky definitely brought a more even flavor with Firefly being more focused on an apple crisp like aroma and flavor.

Each one is unique, so if you need more sweet you’ll want to lean towards Firefly Apple Pie Moonshine or Ole Smoky Apple Pie Moonshine, but if you want something more apple-focused with cinnamon the Midnight Moon Apple Pie Moonshine offering with a bit more striking moonshine-like flavor out of the Grandma’s variant.

In any case, experiment and find your flavor.
