Blanco Tequila is often used for cocktails as a mixing ingredient, but, not all Blanco’s are created equal. El Diamante del Cielo Tequila proves its worth immediately with the smells of spicy caramel aromas with hints of vanilla. Cielo manages to make the sense of their Blanco as smooth as we suspected the taste to be, interesting. Let’s checkout the presentation.
The presentation is crystal clear and the bottle is sexy and sleek. When it comes to a premium tequila, there is a lot to be said for the look — first impressions make a big difference. The presentation and the scents are spot on, the taste? The taste is a smooth ultra-clean blanco with a semi-sweet attack followed by a slight tongue numbness as the flavors slowly fade into tropical fruits and spicy caramel candy.
Most tequila’s have, at some moment, a slightly sour or a harsh bite before the finish fades away. Cielo Tequila, oddly enough, has no sourness to the taste at all. The classic sea salt and lime “bite” is completely missing from the equation as the liquid slides down smooth, crisp and refreshing.
This tequila would be a monumental great selection for new tequila drinkers as it will show them what a blanco is supposed to taste like. Their is no foul or overbearing tastes in the Cielo blanco making it great for sipping or mixing into a cocktail for those fearful of tequila beverages.
How does this 92-point El Diamante del Cielo Tequila Blanco hold up against the competition? It’s slightly less than the price of a Patron tequila (some online stores had Cielo USD $4.00 less than Patron) with much less alcoholic aftertaste. While Patron tries to be extra smooth it arrives with a slightly rubbery tire taste while the taste of Cielo drives for freshness and clarity as its color suggests. There is no straight comparison, Cielo is the better tequila for a better price without the marketing power to emblazing the cover of magazines.
Would we suggest the El Diamante del Cielo Tequila Blanco? Honestly, we urge you to find a bottle of this Blanco and sip it like an Añejo because that’s where it belongs. We can’t wait to try their Añejo!
