Cocktail Creation Series: Highball Cocktails, Connecting The Flavors

Today we turned what was going to be a generic “gin and juice” recipe into a lesson plan. Rather than just doing what everyone would expect (pour gin into orange juice or something), we explain flavor pairings and build connected flavors into the spirits themselves.

To take it a step further we utilize a liqueur (Midori) as a flavor paring (musk melon) to create a flavor paring for those with some liqueur in the house.

The Drinks here were built in one common 10.5 oz. glass with 1.5″ perfect ice cubes creating a recipe that is: 1 1/2 oz. Spirit, 5.5 oz. Juice (the rest is ice and glass).
