🍸 Why Bruising Gin is NOT a Thing… and Why Shaking is Bad.

What the heck is bruising gin and how does it impact a cocktail? First, bruising gin is not a thing, but how shaking impacts a cocktail is definitely a concern.

Spirit based cocktails, such as a gin martini, has consequences to shaking vs. stirring. Sometimes it’s best not to take James Bond’s advice when it comes to craft cocktails because, after all, what does he know about cocktails? He’s an action hero not a mixologist.

What we are really talking about is how flavor note area impacted by aggressive shaking of a cocktail. There are three flavor notes that can be impacted from shaking: high notes (top notes), middle notes, and low notes (base notes).

The most volatile note? The top notes. Shaking your gin makes it taste more like vodka (which has primarily base notes).
