Sipping Stones Review & Frangelico Tasting

Today we’re taking a few moments to test out the Sipping Stones we got in for review. The purpose of Sipping Stones is to allow you to properly taste your whiskey, at a mild chill, without the impact over overdosing your alcohol in water dilution. Now, I always dilute my alcohol before tasting as it brings more aroma to the overall experience, but I like to control this experience.

Sipping Stones give me control over my tasting; I’m able to splash a small bit of water into my spirit to my own desired level and use the sipping stones to bring it to a chill. In our test, we put together a proper Frangelico Tasting by adding a splash of water and getting the spirit to about 60F – a comfortable cool temperature that won’t freeze out any impurities in the spirit.

Why do people put alcohol in the freezer? Because they believe it “tastes better.” The reason they find the taste to be better is because the excessive chill dulls down any alcohol burn in the aftertaste. In short, it destroys the experience of properly tasting the liquid. Does this mean you should never freeze your alcohol? No, that’s a personal experience that we believe is left to the consumer but during a “tasting” to report flavors you find and the total mouthfeel and aroma, freezing the alcohol changes the entire process.

Sipping Stones will not make your alcohol taste better–they will make your sipping experience more pleasant. The stones may bump up the “class” of your drinking by making you look more professional but if you stick the real obvious benefits (on top of not having to always have ice ready in the freezer), then you’ve got a reason for sipping with Sipping Stones.

Is it a worthwhile purchase at the retail price of $14.95 on Amazon? Yes, of course. Will you find people that will complain that this is too expensive for soap stones? Sure thing! Read the reviews or trust our opinion as that is up to you but always consider expanding your experiences with spirits. A great tasting experience is all about the liquid within the vessel, do what you can to make sure that liquid has a chance to speak for itself.

    Straight, I’d say Licor 43 shots, and mixed, there’s too many.. Lejay chocolate liquor, or Frangelico.. I also love Patron XO cafe and Patron citronge.

    Currently, Luxardo Triplum, Senior Curacao, Licor 43 and that new Mariposa Agave Liqueur was pretty damn nice 🙂
