Today we’re going to take a look at some amaro bitterness and ranking by general accepted bitterness (as well as my own). We don’t own all the amari on the planet, so don’t be surprised when you favorite isn’t represented.
There is definitely flavor differences between amaro brands. Many are very old recipes, mostly hidden secret recipes, however the core ingredients are well known and the bitter flavor profile is identifiable. Not all will work in every cocktail interchangeably but the big thing people ask about the amari (amaro category in general) is “which is more / less bitter than the others?” So here we go!
