‘Tis the season to drink flavorful holiday beverage and let’s start it out with a bit of a limited time only liqueur: Kahúa Peppermint Mocha. I poured a bit into a glass, yes I’m about to drink it straight and sat down at my keyboard to think about how to review such a crazy flavorful liqueur.
First, the aroma is what really makes this liqueur so desirable, although the label is pretty neat. I sat it down on the table behind me and the flavors of chocolate have filled the air, it reminds me of a mocha coffee brewing in the kitchen. This Kahlúa flavor looks much like its older siblings in color but the aroma and taste are something completely different.
Taking a closer sniff, I get some nice initial dark peppermint all folded into a sweet chocolate. There is a hint of coffee bean, much like that of an empty coffee bean tin… there is always a little hint of what was left behind. The taste is where we’ll definitely see how it can impact a cocktail and this thick little liqueur is full of flavor.
Peppermint attack, creamy chocolate coating with a finish of peppermint that sits on the tongue long after the sip is finished. If you were to take a bit of chocolate syrup and let it roll around in your mouth before swallowing and that’s pretty much what the impact of this liqueur is having on my palate (yes, I’ve done that.) The most important element of Kahlúa Peppermint Mocha is its subtle peppermint.
While the peppermint is in the attack and finish of the liqueur, it doesn’t overbear the chocolate notes or leave you saying, “wow, that’s a lot of peppermint!” Unlike a peppermint schnapps in some cocktail recipes, Kahlúa has definitely found a striking balance in their latest liqueur. You won’t feel like the peppermint owns this Kahlúa recipe just because the name comes first in the label.
How do you get this delicious product? Kahlúa Peppermint Mocha (20% ABV) will be available at retail October 1 through December 31 and is priced at roughly $17.99 for a 750ml bottle. If you really like the product, you’ll probably want to buy a couple bottles to store throughout the year. Hopefully we’ll see Kahlúa bring this flavored liqueur back next year as well!

November 19, 2010 at 11:11 amWill you be sharing some ways we can use this as a mixer, or do you feel it’s best served straight?

December 20, 2010 at 2:41 amI bought a bottle in California last month. Can you tell me where I can buy it in Seattle. I want to give it as as house party gifts as everyone who had tasted it just loves it. Also why is the company only making a limited supply?

April 6, 2012 at 8:54 pmI know this review is over 2 years old, but I just stumbled across this product as of late. Our local Total Wine had some back stock and decided to sell it. On a whim my buddy and I picked some up. We did the old standard drink “Kahlua and Cream” using this product instead of the original Kahlua. WOW was it awesome, I’ll never drink Kahlua and Cream with the original ever again!
