Today we create a highball called the Gin & Orange Special. It may not have started that way, but we re-designed it slightly to balance it towards a standard highball quality drink. A slight balance of the ratios to make sure the drink meets the right target profile and it worked well.
When you’re designing your highball keep the ratios in mind, 5.5 ounces of juice to 1.5 ounces of alcohol. Second to that is finding appropriate pairings of flavors to connect the experience together. You’ll find orange juice works with gin, especially considering how much American gins lean on citrus peel and other acidic fruit flavors. Pomegranate is another great combination, watch out highballs cocktail for some of the concepts behind connecting those flavors.
