Today we review a liqueur from Germany, Schonauer Apfel Liqueur. This is a product that really shouldn’t just be referred to as your typical American “schnapps” although you may see it referenced as such online. The “schnapps” name, for us, usually reflects a grain alcohol with fruit flavoring of some type or another.
Schonauer Apfel Liqueur is a higher ABV, a stronger natural apple flavor and a nice lingering sweetness that doesn’t bring a dry aftertaste like a over-distilled cider.
This sweet apple flavoring has been found, by us at least, to give a new accent to a champagne as well. Taking that basic dry and bringing a bit more of a sweeter apple to it, not too unlike what you may get an ice wine but less sweet.
If you’re into mixing cocktails and want to try an apple liqueur that brings more apple, a bit of sweet and less fake flavor, Schonauer Apfel Liqueur is worth a purchase!
