How To Make The New Fashioned, it’s like the old fashioned but take out the bourbon/rye and bring Canadian Whiskey. This is a classic cocktail by design and, with that, you may find some people are turned off by it’s “simplicity.”
Of course, some simple cocktails are built as such so you can find all the great nuances of the core spirit. We used Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey for this one, but I was on the fence between Crown Royal and Canadian Club but stuck with what the submitter had used in their instructions.
Some of our audience believes it’s a good cocktail build but they’d not order it at the bar as it’s just too basic for them. Don agrees.
Gegit05, one of our dedicated viewers, believes this is more of a prohibition cocktail when bourbon production was shut down in the US and Canadian whiskey was used with a bit of amaretto to take the “edge” off the whiskey (which was no doubt much lower grade)
