You can make your gin French gimlet with any style of gin you want, but we’re using the one that was called for in the recipe notes we have: Bombay Sapphire East. The French gimlet isn’t being named due to its use of bombay in this cocktail (which isn’t from France anyway), but the inclusion of St. Germaine Elderflower Liqueur.
Without the elderflower this drink would simply be a gin gimlet, instead of a French Gimlet. We also exclude the concept of Rose’s Lime Cordial in a French Gimlet because we want to make it flavorful and tasty with just the sweetness coming from the use of the Elderflower Liqueur.
Notice there is no sugar added to the French Gimlet so it’s sweetness is driven purely by the use of the elderflower liqueur as gin itself is going to be rather dry (especially if you’re not using an American Gin).
The French Gimlet
– 2 oz. Bombay® Sapphire East gin
– 1 oz. Elderflower liqueur
– 1/2 oz. Fresh lime juice
– Garnish Lime twist
A worthy gimlet for your library of excellent cocktail designs: The French Gimlet.
