A collaboration of the rapper Ludacris and Birkedal Hartmann, this is a VS (“Very Special”) cognac that runs roughly USD $30 online. A VS cognac is a fairly young cognac and Conjure Cognac comes complete with a lemon bourbon like profile that charges through your senses with potent alcohol finish.
I think Conjure Cognac will fit well as a cocktail mixer to compete directly against Hennessy at clubs and bars. However, you can usually find Hennessy for about USD $25 which puts Conjure in a weird position. On one hand, the smooth profile will contribute to your cocktails but on the second hand, it costs… $30 for a mostly single purpose product. When I spend that much for an Irish Cream I feel I can find more creative places to use it, with my fallback being Coffee. Conjure’s flavor profile suggests a cocktail because it doesn’t have too many dynamic subtle flavors and rings a bit high on alcohol burn.
For USD $30, I would find it hard to buy it as my cognac filler of choice when I’ve already got a few bottles of Hennessy to utilize. However, being backed by Ludacris may get a few first time buyers to become dedicated to the cause, especially in cocktails utilizing Hypnotic and other crazy pop culture pop style cocktail creations.

August 18, 2012 at 2:27 amWhile I know that Conjure might be a little one note in the drinking department, we have to admit it’s not smooth like Paradis, it’ll straight smack you with its backhand. And yes it is really expensive compared to henny. But wow, this sucker actually makes some really delicate sauces. I usually use a light rum to make the caramel sauce on my banana filo dough sundae, but Conjure actually works really well cooked down and without needing any sort of vanilla extract.
If you ever wanna walk on the wild side, try a sweet caramel sauce made with conjure drizzled lightly atop a fried egg over toasted artisan bread. You’ll get some of that salty, sweet, and savory.
