This week we are tasting the spiced rum and we’re doing it four times with four unique blends including: Captain Morgan Tattoo, Sailor Jerry’s, The Kraken and Jenkin’s Spiced Rum. We put Jenkin’s into the mix to test are palates against a low grade of spiced rum.

May 17, 2010 at 12:24 pmGlad to see my favorite Sailor Jerry’s came out on top (even with its very high proof). Not really that fair of competition since they are kind of different markets for these. For the next round maybe compare the more direct competitors:
Bacardi Gold
Captain Morgan Spiced (gold)
Sailor Jerry
Mt Gay Gold (eclipse I think is the name)
Appleton Estate Reserve (should be the most expensive of the lot @ ~$23)
All of these are in the $18-$23 range.

July 24, 2010 at 5:10 pmShame that Kilo Kai spiced rum was not in this competition. It wold have trounced the others.

July 25, 2010 at 7:05 pmMaybe a spiced rum round two – Sailor Jerry, Kilo Kai, Cap Morgan gold, then maybe a comparable Appleton and Mt gay. Would love to see something like that.

July 25, 2010 at 7:33 pmI’d like to see this competition:
Admiral Nelson
Rogue Spirits Hazelnut Spice Rum (Oregon)
Trader Vic’s Spiced Rum
Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
Captain Morgan Private Stock
Seven Tiki
Kilo Kai
Kraken
Sailor Jerry
Mt Gay Gold
Appleton Estate Reserve (not the most expensive when compared to Morgan’s Private Stock)
And finally Bacardi 8 – their flagship Solera rum, while not technically spiced, it definitely is a sipping sum with spicy overtones!
