The Californication is similar to a Long Island Iced Tea, if you add more alcohol, less flavor and make it all about the punch of alcohol on the face.
The only redeeming quality to this popular cocktail is that it’s not something we’ve really ever seen anyone else drink so maybe the fact that it’s a highly requested cocktail is a myth? There are higher amounts of spirit in here compared to a standard long island iced tea and it still remains very unbalanced: high on alcohol, moderate on sour, medium on sweet.
While you don’t always need a balanced cocktail, you do need a cocktail that tastes good. This one is a glorified heavy duty screwdriver mixer.
