Review: Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon

Tasting Notes: Smooth, medium-body vanilla bean and oak with a tongue numbing action with a citrus mid-palate. Good pronounced flavor that may help it mix well in a cocktail. A well-balanced bourbon that’s got a bright oak which doesn’t go overboard.

Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon is a pretty decent offering for the USD $25 range of bourbon. While it doesn’t create any specific flavor profile that “stands out” in differentiating flavors it does give a nice mild oak flavor with great vanilla bean without going to the extreme. This bourbon will compete directly, I believe, with the Maker’s Mark and Buffalo Trace style products and is a bit less bright on oak than those and will be a bit less sweet than that of a Maker’s product.

Question of the Day: What is your favorite juice to use in a cocktail?

Like the bourbon tasting. I am big fan of both bourbon and scotch. It’s tasty and also forces you to sip your drink and really contemplate it instead of being able to chug it down with out thinking on a rough day.

Qotd: tomato juice and more specifically bloody mary’s. imo the perfect brunch type drink as well.
