Today we’re going to show you how to make the pinky gonzales, this is a tequila drink done in tiki style by the famous Trader Vic. If you’ve had a Mai Tai the recipe and ratios will look pretty familiar.

Invented in 1972 by Trader Vic, documented in Trader Vic’s Bartenders Guide using Trader Vic Mai Tai Mix. We suggest this recipe, using real cocktail ingredients vs. a commercial mixer.
Switch up tequila for blended scotch and this “Mai Tai” variant becomes a Honi Honi cocktail instead.
The Pinky Gonzales has a lot of margarita like qualities to it, you could go as far as to say this is an almond-syrup based margarita variation. However, one thing Dan and I realized as we took more sips was that the pinky gonzales recipe could use a bit more “spark.” Perhaps some spice, perhaps some more tiki forward flavor, or whatnot–maybe just some bitters?
The drink is fine, many will find the pink gonzales recipe new and fun for those that love tequila drinks and tiki cocktails. But, you may want to liven it up with something more special, maybe bitters.
The Pinky Gonzales
– 1 oz. Reposado Tequila
– 1 oz. Blanco Tequila
– ¾ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
– ½ oz. Orange Liqueur
– ½ oz. Orgeat Syrup
