How To Make The Irish Car Bomb

The Irish Car Bomb is a recipe that brings together three Irish products: Stout, Whiskey and Irish Cream. Alone, each product has its place and its favorite fans. Together, it is more of a social experiment–a test of one’s “manly hood” and a flashy “look at that” activity. People put aside all their wisdom when it comes to “don’t mix hard alcohol and beer” just because they want a cocktail that becomes, if only for a moment, the center of attention.

There is no doubt popularity when it comes to this bomb-style “cocktail” experiment. By far, one of the most requested cocktail recipes on Common Man Cocktails, to date, we’ve tried to cover most of the people that have requested it but I’m sure we probably missed half a dozen. Now, though, we can say it has been done. We present to you, the classic telling of Irish Car Bomb recipe.

    No stout here. Not a big beer fan as of yet. Haven’t really found one I like all that much, though I haven’t really looked that hard either.

    Yeah, I don’t seek it out either, probably have like one a year. So, I’m good until 2012 🙂

    You have to watch out for the curdling. One of my friends is part Irish and is a huge fan of any Irish spirit. He made me try the Irish Car Bomb for the first time and didn’t warn me about the curdling effect between the Guinness and Irish Cream.

      Yeah, I was pretty surprised that would occur, but there must be a lot of acid in the beer.

    I always look forward to Brooklyn black chocolate stout this time of year. Does anyone else prefer Guinness in the non widget bottle? Also, I didn’t here the words chocolate milkshake mentioned. Maybe requires baileys for that to come out in the finish?

      It may depend on the person too, the chocolate milkshake analogy, to me, is almost the nature of Guinness to begin with, I consider that part of the standard Guinness flavor profile 🙂

      And, I’ve not found anything from Brooklyn beers that’s bad, really really nice Brown ale too.

    I’m not that big of a stout drinker, but I recently tried the Left Hand Brewing Company’s Milk Stout, and I am a real fan. They have a very limited east coast distribution, but if you can get your hands on it definitely do so. I am not the only person I know who loves this beer, and most of my friends and I drink Pale Ales.
