Homemade Limoncello is something we’re new at but my wife Jennifer gave it a try utilizing a recipe we had found on the Net. I was extremely impressed with the homemade limoncello offering because I find most limoncello brands way too “fake” flavored with chalky candy-like lemon flavor that doesn’t do justice to what I’d call a “liqueur.”
A good limoncello should have some flavor of lemon and we created two variants, your typical limoncello and a cream based limoncello to see the difference. Our cream based used Pinnacle 100 vodka while the standard used Ole Smoky Moonshine, we found Ole Smoky to have a great based flavor that really came through in the final product. A true complex bodied white whiskey with huge lemon zest flavor was killer for this build out.
The cream based one was also a great addition, especially for those seeking more cream-based spirits that go above and beyond your basic Irish Cream varieties. Color me impressed.
