The zombie is by and far the most ambitious cocktail design of the 30’s and 40’s. It’s strong, it’s potent and it’s flavorful. All of the qualities of the zombie also make it intimidating and slightly scary. This is definitely a “one drink” style recipe or you’ll find yourself on the floor pretty quick.
The boosted 1 oz of overproof rum is what puts the zombie recipe on the rough side of tiki drinks. Otherwise, it would just be a flavorful high potent drink but, instead, the zombie is over-the-top on potent punch along side vibrant flavors.
There is no need to skimp on dilution when working on this cocktail, the zombie is strong and can use some added watering. However, the final product looks pretty fantastic-great color and look of ‘iced tea’
The zombie puts the long island iced tea to shame. However, it also adds a lot of complexity to the build.
