We’ve been in search for a good low cost slightly sweet riesling for some time now. There are many new wine drinkers out there that aren’t into big red wines and we want to find something to start them out with – a sweet riesling is a good beginner.
The Radiance riesling is very pale yellow in color and offers a huge tropical nose. This has a classic riesling scent which borders on Ice Wine in terms of sweetness on the bouquet. So far, we’re happy with the presentation for both new and old wine drinkers – fresh sweet taste without fake fruit flavorings.
Initially we get a flavor of spirte or citrus sodas with a sweet mid-palate transition to a well rounded acid finish. The acids are not powerful enough to really grip your taste buds on the edges of your tongue but they do help provide structure and bring a good finish to a sweeter start.
In many ways Josef Weinberg 2007 Riesling would go great with a cheese such as Gouda or a slightly sweet dessert. This would be like a mid-priced Ice Wine without the ultra-sweet attack and thicker viscosity. This is a great introductory wine or a drink to have conversationally with friends. It’s not overly complex but also avoids being boring with the tropical fruits knocking on your palate.
