The Hurricane is a classic tiki design that goes back to Pat O’Brien’s in the French Quarter of New Orleans. This little beverage has quit a history, based on the need for O’Brien’s to get rid of far too much rum and wanted a drink to move product.
The original hurricane uses Fassionola Syrup, which we have, so we’ll try that too against that of the recipe within Jeff Berry’s book (most folks substitute Passion Fruit syrup for Fassionola).
The Hurricane
– 2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
– 2 oz Passion Fruit Syrup
– 4 oz Dark Jamaican Rum
The Jonathan English Company’s brand will be compared to your standard B.G. Reynolds’ Passion Fruit Syrup, and comes out tasting a bit more like Pat O’Brien’s but also a bit more sweet.
