Ultra-Premium Blanco Tequila Hand-Infused with the Flavors of Mexico –
Jalapeño, Chocolate and Tropical

NEW YORK – A lot has changed since tequila first appeared stateside as a harsh, fiery liquor tempered only by a wedge of lime and a dash of salt.  In fact, Mexico’s history-rich spirit has gained substantial ground in the U.S. as sales of ultra-premium brands have grown at an industry-leading rate of more than 30% and show no signs of subsiding. The driving force behind such rapid growth has been a heightened appreciation for the refined smoothness of 100% blanco and aged tequilas, which has set the stage for the next revolution in the category: Tanteo Tequila™, an ultra-premium collection of blanco tequilas each of which are hand-infused with the flavors of Mexico – Jalapeño, Chocolate and Tropical – launched in December 2008 in the United States by the Tanteo Spirits Company, with its introduction in New York.

Conceived by Jonathan Rojewski, CEO and co-founder of the Tanteo Spirits Company, the Tanteo collection is an idea realized thanks in part to the actions of the Consejo Regular de Tequila (CRT), Mexico’s tequila regulator, which lifted its strict ban on non-agave infusions. As a result, Tanteo was born: a 100% Weber blue agave tequila, enhanced – not masked – by natural extracts of jalepeño, chocolate and tropical fruit, with jalapeño providing a base note throughout.

“There are some superb blanco, anejo and reposado tequilas on the market already,” explains Rojewski. “We thought it was time for a superior tasting tequila that not only celebrates the intensely rich traditions and heritage of Mexico’s national drink but also satisfies the contemporary thirst for bold, refined flavors and a sophisticated taste profile.”

Staying true to the spirit’s traditions, Tanteo is distilled, infused and bottled in the historic mountain town of Tequila, Mexico. Meticulous care and attention is given to both the selection and harvesting of the agave, which is processed and distilled into the highest-quality blanco tequila, and to the extraction of natural flavors to complement the spirit. For the Tanteo Jalapeño, for example, four separate infusions of organic jalapeños are blended to capture and highlight the aroma, taste and heat. Tequila’s luscious fruit and roasted agave flavors, as well as the light, peppery heat of jalapeños, are also present in both the Tanteo Chocolate, which gets its distinctive, smooth, earthy sweetness from roasted, malted and raw cocoa, and the Tanteo Tropical, which combines all-natural extracts of lush mango, aromatic pineapple and guanabana to provide a semi-sweet, fruity counterpoint to the herbal tequila note.

With roots in Manhattan’s SoHo, Tanteo also reflects that neighborhood’s unique style and artistry. Designed by co-founder and award-winning graphic artist Lincoln Mayne, the brand’s bottle is an expression of Tanteo’s philosophical essence – traditional artistry blended with a modern sensibility. Handcrafted rustic glass characterized by naturally occurring bubbles, an authentic cork closure and vintage-style wax seal combine to evoke heritage and tradition, while the bottle’s tapered shape and thick glass bottom beautifully encase the liquid inside, protecting it like a proud soldado.

Tanteo Tequila (750ml, 40% ABV) is available at liquor stores throughout New York City for the suggested retail price of $45.00.
