Favorite Brew: Löwenbräu

Keg of Löwenbräu - The Only Way To TravelWhen you’re looking for a lighter München (Munich) style beer, Löwenbräu is hard to beat. Löwenbräu means “Lions Brew” and has a history that goes all the way back to 1383, longer than any American brew.

“Löwenbräu Original Lager beer is made from the highest quality ingredients giving it a superb natural head, golden color, distinctive, refreshing flavor and a pleasant, enjoyable aftertaste. Brewed according to the Bavarian “Reinheitsgebot” (Purity Law) dating back to 1516.” — http://www.lowenbraubeer.com

If you’ve tried Löwenbräu and didn’t care for it, try it again. Why? Years ago they decided to have it brewed in the States under license from the Miller Brewing Company and the taste was not that of a traditional Löwenbräu. Starting in October 2002, Löwenbräu exported the beverage directly from München Germany. You’ll know this because the label on the box says “Imported From Munich” so you’ll know you’ve got the real stuff. It is also marketed as “Löwenbräu Original”.

Although a bit on the pricey side of things, running USD $7.99 for a Six Pack in New Hamsphire, Löwenbräu has the taste of a classic German brew with a light drink feeling. This isn’t a stereotypical “dark brew” from Germany so if you’re not into dark beers this should suit you fine. Add on this a 5.2% alcohol by volume and you’re tummy will be warm in no time flat.

Cheers.
