Pink Pigeon Rum Review / Tasting

Flavorful vanilla notes that are prominent but not overbearing, a smooth and sweet rum with molasses notes and sweet cotton candy nose. Mild to moderate sweet sensation at room temperature with only hints of alcohol bite in the finish followed by muted nutmeg. Smooth, flavorful, definitely will compliment a compound cocktail with a few varying ingredients.

Pink Pigeon Rum, a rum made from the Mauritian island, east of Madagascar. My first thought was, “they make rum there?” then I tried to be more open minded and consider all the other islands that produce rum and how great they turn out! Now, the first thought when I saw the bottle was that Pink Pigeon Rum was going to pour out…pink. I assumed the marketing behind this was going to be all about making something colored pink until I read more about the story of Pink Pigeon and realized it symbolizes the uniqueness of the product along with the thoughts of peace and harmony.

Vanilla is the center focus of Pink Pigeon but it doesn’t dominate the product flavor and the smooth and flavorful rum. The rum does bring a bit of back-end heat as this is, after all, a 40% ABV product. As our tasting notes say, Pink Pigeon brings some mild spices including a finishing nutmeg note and, supposedly some citrus zest but I don’t get that too much in the flavor profile.

You will definitely find Pink Pigeon brings a sweet-forward flavor that doesn’t go over the top into “schnapps-ville” but definitely is heads and tales sweeter than a core cane rum. However, I think Pink Pigeon is going to work very well in a cocktail that needs some additional vanilla nuance without having to rely on less sweet vodka flavor that tends to be a bit more alcohol-forward in flavor. Those that love the sweet side of life may want to pair some Pink Pigeon Rum with a coconut rum and some pineapple juice or orange juice.

At USD USD $34.99, this product definitely labels itself as an “ultra premium” product but don’t let the concept of a vanilla forward rum throw you off, the smooth quality and muted spiced notes frame this as more than a vanilla infused rum product. The authentic flavor profile suggests a much more complicated product and the cane rum is definitely found upon the nose and flavor profile not too unlike a product like 10 Cane Rum.
