How To Make The Batanga / Easy Tequila Drinks

Today we’ll show you how to make the batanga, an easy tequila drink ripe and ready for TEQUILA MONTH here on CMC. One could say it’s a Cuba Libre with tequila and one would be quite right…but that doesn’t mean it’s the same cocktail / mixed drink.

This entire month is brought to you by the folks at Alma De Agave Tequila, check them out at http://almadeagave.com

A 1961 recipe designed by Don Javier Delgado Corona bar owner of La Capilla in Jalisco, Mexico. Much more famous in Mexico, this is, to us, a Cuba Libre with Tequila. However, because tequila is so vibrant and distinct, the Batanga recipe does not have the same flavor profile as that of a cuba libre.

Overall, I think I still enjoy a cuba libre a bit more, but this may just be because the tequila makes me think of a more traditional margarita than that of a soda-driven focus. However, if you love tequila and the flavor of tequila (Reposado or Blanco at least) and you like coca-cola, this drink is a must try.

Plus, this is a very easy tequila drink that doesn’t require a lot of risk. However, I would definitely suggest the use of Mexican coke vs. that of american (high fructose corn syrup) options.

The Batanga
– 2 oz. Reposado Tequila (or blanco)
– 1/2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
– Top with Coca-Cola (Mexican Coke!)
– Salt Rim (optional)
