Exploration Series: A Bitter History Part I, Bitters Explained

Today we explore the world of cocktail bitters, first focusing on the history of cocktail bitters and then breaking into Part II of the series, all about the brands.

You’ll find the history of bitters reaches back to the 1700s and morphs its story from the 1800s into the 1900s and through prohibition. While we don’t touch on every single small batch bitter and commercial bitter company we do touch on everything dating back from the days of Angostura and Peychaud bitters through Berg & Hauck, Regan’s Orange No 6, Adam Elmegirab, Bittermens, Bittercube and even Scrappy’s bitters and the brand known as “Bitters, Old Men.”

We show off the kickstarter brand that became a business by the name of Hella Bitters and a few brands launched around the same time like Dutchs Bitters and the single big bottle of Stirrings Blood Orange bitters. We also represent with Wigle, Bob’s bitters and a few others.
