Cockspur has a spiced rum and we have a chance to try some cockspur spice. This is a rum with definite clove-forward flavor with a very light rum profile, with a lower ABV than many spiced rums coming in at 22% ABV.
This could be a good spiced rum for an introduction to spiced rum–but someone that has enjoyed a full bodied spiced rum may find this too light for their standard consumption, but perhaps as an addition to a tiki cocktail with the clove-flavor.
It just feels like you wouldn’t use this as a base spirit for a cocktail that calls for “spiced rum” as the primary ingredient. But, it does add some nice island flavors, maybe as a topping to a tiki drink.
