Saint Patrick’s Day Cocktail: The Blended Leprechaun

Tasting Notes: Rich Irish cream flavor with memorable amounts of chocolate and occasional strawberry sweetness with a muted whiskey finish, no burn.

This Saint Patrick’s Day recipe was a challenge to say the least. Coole Swan challenged us to create them a cocktail that could be created in the UK without a problem finding ingredients. That meant I had to work hard to trim down the selection of alcohols I own to something internationally achievable, which is why we came up with the use of Strawberries! This allowed us to utilize an irish whiskey (in this case Jameson, but it will work with others) and the Irish Cream.

Obtaining the green became a huge challenge as I didn’t want to simply force people to seek out tough to find green ingredients (Midori, Creme de Menthe, etc.) so we used food coloring as an option for those that need green. Instinctively, I wanted to use lime as I know I could have got a green, but lime and irish cream create a very dangerously “curdled” result.

The end result, bringing a dessert of strawberries and chocolate often found in strawberry shortcake together with Coole Swan Irish Cream and Jameson Irish Whiskey. We’ve got enough Irish to make it a Saint Patrick’s Day recipe for everyone around the world… or we hope!

Recipe:

  • 1 1/2 oz Cool Swan Irish Cream
  • 1 oz Irish Whiskey
  • 1/4 oz Chocolate Syrup
  • 1 Tsp Sugar
  • 2 Medium Strawberries
  • Optional Green Food Coloring
