Kerberos Tripel: Everyday Drinkers Review

Flying Dog’s latest brew, Kerberos Tripel, has hit the market at the perfect season. It’s a true Belgian style brew using traditional brewing techniques straight out of Belgium. The beer arrives with a sweet 8.5% alcohol by volume (ABV), bottle conditioned for extra fermentation and will be available all year-round.

Let’s start with the pour, if you pour it quickly you’ll get a half inch head while a slow pour results in a simple halo effect. This is a bottle conditioned brew, if you pour it all out into your glass you’ll get 100% of its yeasty delight, just the way I like it. If you want a more clear pour with slightly different flavor, leave a half inch in the bottle after your slower pour.

Kerberos Tripel, the fourth member of Flying Dog’s Canis Major Series, yields a bright yet hazy copper tone. Everything about this beer screams Belgian, from the fruity aromas to the hazy coloring and the strong punch you’ll get from imbibing the natural nectars of yeasts, alcohols and hops.

A little sip from a Kerberos Tripel will bombard your senses with a sweet start to a dry finish with apple notes throughout the entire sip. A warm piece of apple pie, whip cream and a Kerberos Tripel will be all you can dream for weeks once you’ve tasted this year-round complex brew.

Flying Dog suggests poultry, creamy cheeses, fruit pastries and creme brulee as side carts to this great stand alone Belgian recipe. There is a great carbonation to this beer, but not enough to give you the urge to constantly belch which will keep you in good terms with the family at parties.

The fruity aftertaste of this well balanced brew is quite pleasing and makes your mouth water for yet another sip. My only concern, now, is drinking them slow enough as 8.5% will catch up to you fast if you’re light of weight. If you like hops, you have to try a Kerberos Tripel from Flying Dog.
