If you’re looking to show off your knowledge of red wines I highly suggest a Ravenswood wine. The Ravenswood Winery in Sonoma California sports some great tasting wines for USD $16.99, at least in New Hamsphire. The Cabernet Sauvignon is a great tasting wine for the average consumer and would make a great gift when visiting guests or for special occasions.
The price of the wine fits well with a standard gift at a 40th birthday celebration, considering you’re probably eating for free, or a bottle of Merlot and Cabernet as a wedding gift! The key ingredient to this special gift is taste, Ravenswood tastes like a USD $30.00 bottle of wine for half the price.

If you’re in the Sonoma area, you can visit the Ravenswood Winery without reservations, someday I’ll get their to taste the wine before it makes it to my local grocery store. Their website says you don’t need to make an appointment to visit and “For those who want to get up close and personal, tours and tastings begin at 10:30 a.m. every day.”
I’m sure you can find a better wine for a bit more in price but we’re talking about something you can afford and feel good drinking. You won’t get that biting headache from the massive sugars to bring out the “flavor” in the wine like a $6.99 bottle and you’ll often find good deals on it to reduce the cost a bit more.
In the end, there is absolutely no reason to pass up a bottle of red from Ravenswood, unless of course, you hate wine.
